The Super Sunday Retirement Roundup: November 10th 2024

Hi Reader

πŸ‘‹ Welcome to edition #37 of The Super Sunday Retirement Roundup.

It's been a wonderful week people! I have had the privilege of 3 new couples putting their trust in us to help them live their second half of life with more purpose, passion and joy than their first. A task myself and my team take very seriously and we cant wait to put our energy and wisdom to use!

I also had the honour of speaking at The Humans Under Management conference in London on Thursday, where spoke to over 300 financial planning professionals about 'The Science & Skill of Spending Money in Retirement'

β˜• Now, grab that coffee and settle into your Sunday morning and as always, I hope you enjoy the read!

Opening Up

APOSTASISE (Verb) - To abandon a once firmly held belief

I want you to think about this today...

The word apostasise - to renounce or abandon a belief - has more to do with your retirement than you might think.

As I've said many times, retirement isn’t just the end of a career; it’s an opportunity to shed the scripts and roles that no longer serve us, to abandon the limitations of past beliefs about what life should be.

To truly thrive in this next chapter, we must apostasise from outdated mindsets and embrace a new vision of freedom, purpose, and fulfilment.

This transformation isn’t optional; it’s crucial for living your best second half of life.

Episode 64 - Beyond Your Career with Victoria Barker

Summary

In this brand new episode of the Humans vs Retirement podcast, I get to have a great conversation with Victoria Barker, co-founder of Beyond Your Career. Beyond Your Career is a programme led by a skilled team of expert coaches, psychologists and neuropsychologists to help ensure a smooth psychological transition from a demanding career, which includes workshops and insights from world-class experts and a supportive community of peers navigating the same transition.

We discuss the challenges of transitioning from demanding careers to retirement, the importance of early planning, and the psychological aspects of identity and purpose. Victoria shares her journey of co-founding Beyond Your Career, driven by her observations of the struggles faced by individuals, particularly men, during this transition.

Our conversation emphasises the need for community support, understanding one's identity beyond work, and the significance of preparing for retirement well in advance.

Victoria and I explore the themes of career transitions, rediscovering passions, and the importance of values in shaping one's purpose. We discuss the courage required to pursue new paths, the common tendency to follow societal expectations, and the significance of introspection in finding fulfillment. Our discussion also highlights the impact of the book 'The Why Cafe' on understanding purpose and the necessity of values as a foundation for personal growth and decision-making.
